10 Unusual Ways to Manifest Success In Your Life

Visualize

When I was launching the Westchester Digital Summit I had a vision of what the event would look like. I would close my eyes, and see the room. I could feel the energy. I would do this every night. I’ve since done this for each of our events. I’m struck by how spot on my visualization usually is of the actual event. If you can close your eyes and visualize it, you can manifest it. but be careful. I’m not suggesting that you make a wish about what you want to do. When I would visualize the Westchester Digital Summit, I knew that I had to take bold steps to make that vision a reality. But if you can’t see it – you can’t create it.

Translate setbacks to learning experiences.

You’re going to have setbacks. Some will hurt more than others. The only way to survive these setbacks is by determining how you will file them in your mind, heart and spirit. If you view each setback as a learning experience, you immediately change the game. You’ve now changed the paradigm and have insulated yourself against further setbacks. As long as you don’t repeat your mistakes. For example: last year we produced a Baltimore Digital Summit in September. I had a vision that we could roll out our success in Westchester into other major metropolitan cities. This may still be the case. But for us, for right now – doing another event doesn’t make sense. We’ve learned to focus on what’s working, and make it work better, BEFORE we venture into other cities. I view this as a huge win.

Follow Your Passion

This is a tough one. Here’s the rub – some people don’t know what they’re passionate about. I find passion in a million different things in a million different areas of my life. Some of them may not be my life’s calling, but I enjoy them. It’s up to you to expose yourself to as many outside stimulating experiences as possible. Meet as many people from as many walks of life, and ask them questions. The moment you find flow in an activity take note. Flow is when time melts away while you’re doing that activity. Now you’ve found something you’re passionate about. But don’t stop there. Now determine if you can make a living doing that thing. If there are hard grinding steps along the way, then take them. Too many think that if it doesn’t feel good – you’re not following your passion. Bull. If you have a vision and you know that you have to climb a mountain to get to the top, you’re taking the steps to land on your passion.

Create Things

When confronted with the reality that there was no major digital summit in my local area, I created one. All I did was go to GoDaddy, and buy the URL. That’s it. Today we’ve produced 4 events in 3 years in two cities. If you need something, than create it. Seeking a business networking group in your city – create it. Interested in learning from the smartest people in your industry – interview them. Don’t sit idly by and complain. Technology is on your site. I purchased the URL for $7.99 – and last year Forbes named us one the: Conferences That Will Keep You Ahead Of Marketing Trends This Year

Risk Being Yourself – Be Ultra Transparent

The most popular post I’ve ever written is title “I’m a Loser.” In it, I recount the fact that during the most difficult period of my career. I found myself unemployed 3 times in 2 years If you have experienced bumps in the road – talk about them. They won’t repel people, it will endear you to them. The best example of this is James Altucher.James is so transparent that I cringe when I read him. I also love him. I know that what I’m reading is what he thinks. There is no fluff. Zero bullshit. When you hit the zero bullshit zone, you can accomplish great things. In work, in your personal life – with friend and family.

Compromise

Reality: you can’t always get what you want. That doesn’t mean that you can’t meet in the middle The thing that you’re clinging to – that you know if you lose it everything will implode. That big hairy thing – isn’t always right for you. Understanding this, and embracing the unknown, and unplanned can change your world.

Believe

You can visualize and plan all you like – but if you don’t believe in yourself, nothing will work. This isn’t a grey area. If you don’t believe you can do something, you won’t. If you believe you can, you may not do it on the first try – but you will do it. Sometimes it’s OK to be a bit delusional.

Know that Fear is Fake

Fear is just the way you’re looking at it. I find that meditation alleviates every fear I have. I know how difficult it can be to kill the voice in your head. Try to quiet your mind, and realize that you are not the voice in your head. Fear cannot control you. Most billionaires have had astronomical success because they didn’t know the perceived risks. Most approach problems differently as a result. If quelling your fear is consuming you, and you’ve tried meditation to no avail – read 10% Happier by Dan Harris. I view this book as a practical guide to meditation. Dan Harris is able to cut through the guru mumbo jumbo, and help to define how he tamed the voice in his head. It will be a good first step.

Define Your Intention

If you can’t set your destination, you’ll never get anywhere. If you can’t tell someone in simple terms where you’re heading you have a problem. In 2007 I set the intention of working in social media. I had no idea where to start. So I just started to create. I purchased the URL Facebookshouldhireme with the intention of diving in headfirst into the deep end. It worked. The media attention got me an interview at Buddy Media. They hired me a month later. The rest as they say, is history.

Take Informed Risk

As an entrepreneur it’s my job to cut the downside as much as possible. But if I don’t allow some wiggle room to take informed risk, I’ll never create anything. Sticking to the way things were last year is the best way to stagnate. Trying something new on a small scale can be empowering. Take informed risks to test your boundaries. Making regular lists of moon-shot ideas keeps my agency and my clients growing in the right direction.
