So I was in this, co-working law firm-ish looking office’s conference room. I was starting to feel self conscious. Did I mention I was naked? Well, not totally naked. Pretty close. I had on boxers. But that’s not why I was feeling self conscious. What made me self conscious was the fact that I was in the conference room with 50 year old-ish Hasidic Jewish Father of 6 children.

I’m letting go today. I have nobody to impress. My Dad already dug me pretty well, and I never needed to show him the splashy stuff. My whole life, if I was in pain, all he ever wanted me to do was to put my head on his chest, and let it out.

Two weeks ago I went on CNN to discuss my views on Twitter and Facebook’s earnings. I explained that my agency only publishes social content on platforms that work for our clients. Right now the holy trinity is Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. If wall street analysts are watching the car race from home (viewing who is in the lead, and seeing the crowd’s reaction) – than we’re driving the car with our clients riding shot gun. We feel the bumps on the road, see the potholes ahead and can hear the dings in the engine.

I crave it. No judgement. Full support. No business. No family. No spouses. Just blood sweat and tears for one hour. I’d argue it’s meditative. All the commotion of our lives blocked out. All the responsibilities are gone. All the focus is on our form, execution and effort. We don’t think about the presentation tomorrow. Or taking the kids to the doctor appointment, or the nagging client.

I’m lucky. I get to go on TV from time to time and meet amazing people. One of those people is Dr. Roshini Raj. I met the Dr. while on the Good Day New York set. She was curious about social media and asked if I could help her. A few weeks later, I met with her at her office in New York City and we became friends.
Recently, my friend Jeff Pearlman interviewed me for a section of his blog called the “Quaz. He peppers people who interest him with interesting questions. Sports anchors, to former reality stars, Jeff interviews them all. It’s a riveting bit of the internet and I never miss it. Jeff’s “Quaz” has inspired me to do something different here on my blog.
Hello, my name is Chris Dessi, and I’m a CrossFit addict.
I didn’t start off addicted to CrossFit. Like a bad after school special warning kids of the dangers of drugs, I had heard about it from some friends. They knew I enjoyed staying fit, so they made a suggestion. “Just try it once.” And just like the knucklehead kid in the after school special, I decided to give it a try. Now I’m hooked. Full blown addict.
Some guys have all the luck. The first time I sat on the Good Day New York couch will be a moment I’ll never forget it. Partially because I co-anchor Greg Kelly scared me, and partially because I think I fell (just a bit) in love with Rosanna Scotto.

Over the years I’ve gotten to know Lew Leone, VP and General Manager at WNYW/WWOR-TV. He’s engaging, intelligent, and wildly successful in the news business. He’s also a nice Italian kid from New York – so of course we bonded immediately.

I miss you Daddy, I love you Daddy. Thank you for your love, your guidance, and your affection. I miss you more than I could have imagined. Thank you for teaching me how to be a good Father. A good man.

Too many think that if it doesn’t feel good – you’re not following your passion. Bull. If you have a vision and you know that you have to climb a mountain to get to the top, you’re taking the steps to land on your passion.

Chris Dessi: Dave, currently as I write this, your most popular post on Linkedin has over 2.7million views. What is it about your writing that you feel resonates with the Linkedin community?
Dave Kerpen: I try to write simply and concisely, and I like to tell stories. If my kids can read a LinkedIn post of mine, that’s a good thing.

My first “Success” interview will be with Chris Maloney. I love this guy. Chris and I met when he interned for me. Chris is a military veteran. He’s also an entrepreneur, and reservist. Chris even invited me to speak about digital & social media to his colleagues at Stewart Air National Guard Base. Chris has helped Silverback Social work on social media campaigns. He also worked with us on last year’s Westchester Digital Summit. I consider Chris a huge success. I should have been paying him to consult for me rather than have him intern. He wanted to learn about digital marketing. So he took an unpaid internship to immerse himself in our industry. He taught me more about operations and how to run my agency than I could ever teach him. He’s also a great guy, and a great friend. Here we go.

In 20012 I spoke at Social Week Gives Back by the Pivot Conference. During that week I was first introduced to an APP called Banjo. They sponsored the event. Since then I’ve enjoyed tinkering with the APP, but recently there have been some dramatic changes.
Last week I went on Fox News to discuss Banjo (video below). Here are 6 reasons why this is the most powerful APP in the world right now.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But lately I’ve been implementing a little trick that has helped me. I think it can help you too.
My agency is growing. We have amazing clients. We also produce a world class conference. The conference and the clients are synergistic events on paper. In execution they are at odds. One takes from the other in time, energy and sweat equity. I needed to clone myself, or find a solution.
