Hugh Hefner Announces Engagement on Twitter

Whether you think Hugh Hefner is a dirty old man, or a Hero to every red blooded male,  you have to take note of his recent engagement to playmate Crystal Harris.

Hef has a reputation for being a rebel, trailblazer, and early adopter.  It’s no surprise then that he announced his engagement via his Twitter account this week.  It will be Hef’s third walk down the aisle.

Hef made the announcement on Christmas day.

“When I gave Crystal the ring, she burst into tears. This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory,” Hefner tweeted.

Hefner sent a second message on Sunday to clear up any lingering doubts about his intentions.

“Yes, the ring I gave Crystal is an engagement ring. I didn’t mean to make a mystery out of it. A very merry Christmas to all,” it said.

Hugh Hefner Engaged

Here’s a little blurb from Playboy.com about the engagement.

Here’s why I think this is so cool. Anyone of Hef’s 400k+ followers were on the receiving end of one of the hottest stories to break this Christmas week. All because they were following Hef on Twitter. They’re not industry insiders, reporters, or part of Hef’s very small inner circle (he only follows 14 people on Twitter). But he chose to break the news on Twitter. Not via the publication that has helped to make him a cultural icon, nor on the website that supports the paper publication.  This is a watershed moment for a maverick of the publishing world.  Understand this; Hef – who has access to every media outlet imaginable, chose Twitter.  Was he making a statement, or what is simply because he found it easiest? One can picture Hef luxuriating around the mansion with his harem of women, and reaching over to text out the good news.

No press conference, no copy writers, full transparency, full immediacy, and a sense of intimacy that Hef has fought to create with his loyal readers.

Mission accomplished Hef. You dirty bird.

Over and out.
