To All the Ice Bucket Copycats: Please stop.

It’s happening right now all over the globe. There are dusty executives, in their dusty offices, with their dusty mentalities, and their dusty spreadsheets. Their board has told them that they need to up donations. That they need to find their “Ice Bucket Challenge.” The dusty executives are confused because they have a Facebook account, but they’re not on it very much. So they all gather around their dusty computers in their dusty office and they watch the #icebucketchallenge.

They laugh.

4 Lessons Derek Jeter Taught Me About Leadership

On July 9th, 2011 my father Adrian Dessi threw out the first pitch to start a Yankee game. You can see Dad seated in this photo (LtoR Derek Jeter, Adrian Dessi, Mark Dessi, Chris Dessi, Pat Dessi). This fact is certainly significant. However, it gains further significance when you understand that on that same day, Yankee great Derek Jeter hit his 3,000th-career hit.

4 Steps to Become a Great Public Speaker

In 2006 I spoke in front of an audience for the first time, and I was horrible.

I was sweating.

I spoke too quickly.

I didn’t consider what my audience should get from my speech.

I only thought about how I would be perceived. Cringe.

College Students: Four Easy Steps to Clean Up Your Facebook Page Before the Big Interview

I’m usually pretty liberal with the conent that I allow on Facebook – this is mostly because I’m a 37 year old married father of two, not a 21 year old about to graduate from College. The most scandelous photos that I’m tagged in usually involved baby vomit, not me vomiting at a frat party. However, when a photo popped up of my brother and I after having thrown back a few at a Villanova homecoming weekend (circa 1993?) It dawned on me that some photos that upcoming College graduates have on their current Facebook pages may not be as appropriate as others, and perhaps it was worth taking a closer look. So I started to poke around and found something really refreshing: Facebook is making it easier for us to curate our content. In this instance “curating” is just nice way of saying – delete all of the pics you don’t want your future boss to see. Phew! Here are three easy steps to help you curate away:

Gratitude, Spirit & Social Media

The past two weeks have been nothing short of magical. It all started with Hurricane Sandy, and culminated in the most pure and beautiful moment of my life, save the birth of my two children.

President Barack Obama will win the Election, Here’s why:

Lately my direct messages have been reserved for messages from my Twitter followers who have incorrectly clicked on a link proclaiming things like “LMAO can’t believe ur in this facebook vid”…I know enough to never click on these links. These type of spammy messages are part of the social media territory, it’ also part of the reason why I don’t regularly check my direct messages. But yesterday I got a message that struck me. I received a direct message on Twitter from our very own President of the United States.

Social Media is Dead.

The past two weeks have been unique. Last week I was in Syracuse, New York training a brilliant sales team at BlueRock Energy. The week before was spent hopping from borough to borough with the talented team at Vanguarde Consulting speaking with small business owners (save the Bronx due to a scheduling mix up).
