I’m blessed to have my own business, and make my own hours. The great thing about it is that I can come and go as I please. The bad thing is that I’m the worst boss I’ve ever worked for. As I write this it’s 9:10pm and I’m still in the office. This is my norm. During the week I have to choose – mornings, or evenings, and I choose mornings.  Meaning, I reserve my mornings for my daughters.  We get dressed, sing songs, play and read books, and I put my oldest on the bus.  The evenings are all business.   I’ll leave the office to work out and come back to crank out some work until around 10pm. Monday I was here until after midnight. So today’s gift was very special.  Here’s why:

I’ve been taking (what I think) is a life changing course on Wealth taught by my friend Leisa Peterson. Leisa and I met while we were both speaking at an event called Catalyst Week in Las Vegas.  She’s an inspiration.  My wife Laura, my business partner John and I have all been taking her course together. It’s held via telephone every Monday night for 13 weeks.  It’s fascinating and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s seeking change with their finances.  You can learn more about Leisa on her site Wealth Clinic.

Recently she and I got on a call just to touch base. She asked what I was up to.  I mentioned my business, the Westchester Digital summit, the Baltimore Digital Summit, the Dubai Digital Summit, the TV appearances, my father and ALS,  etc etc, and she said something that was profound.  She said “Chris, you have life by the throat.” Leisa suggested that I get lost for a few hours.  Literally, just drive someplace, turn off my phone and sit in nature.  So I took her advice and did just that.  I went to Gedney Park at around 3pm during a work day, and just chilled out for two hours. It went by in a flash.  I’ve also been practicing meditation a great deal lately, so I began a brief practice and attempted to recharge my battery.  It was a fascinating experience.  Frankly, I don’t feel fully comfortable sharing all the details on this blog, but let’s just say that I needed this gift, and I’m blessed to have friends like Leisa in my life that can help me to see that I needed to take care of myself before I can take care of my family, my employees, or my clients.  Day 9 was the gift of time. For myself.
